Purpose of Books
Max's Moments was written in order to provide a resource and reference points for parents/caregivers to help prepare their child as they enter Kindergarten and School for the first time. Each story has clear social themes such as winning and losing, big feelings and asking to play that is woven into the text for you to share with your child.
As you read the books together, there are questions for your child to answer about identifying the character's feelings in that moment, what should they do to help the situation and what does your child think will happen next.
Your role is to help mentor and guide their answers by asking them to look at facial expressions, body language and the words used in the stories. At the end of each story there are concluding questions aimed at your child answering, if the characters were able to resolve the conflict or situation, did they learn from the experience and what was the social theme of the story?
It is hoped in reading the stories that your child can identify with the character's struggles with social concepts and can relate to how they are feeling therefore helping them gain the confidence and skills to face similar challenges at school.
Benefits for Child and Adults
Children will love the characters and illustrations, being able to follow along with the simple social themes and concepts. They will have input through answering questions as they listen to the stories being read and make predictions about the feelings of the characters.
The theme of each story is supported with games and activities for your child to regular practise and strengthen the social concepts in a safe and caring environment at home.
For adults, these books provide you with the opportunity to help prepare your child by first introducing and then reinforcing the social concepts through the activities offered at the end of the story. There is no need for you to source and find games or ideas to help teach the theme of the book, it has all been delivered to you!
In addition, there is a Handbook included for Parents at the conclusion of the books covering topics such as Sleep, Calm separation and Positivity to name a few topics, which are helpful hints to assist with the transition from home into Kindergarten or School.
