As an experienced educator, I've observed many young children entering school lacking essential social abilities and self-regulation skills. This series of books stems from my desire to help parents better prepare their children for the school environment, focusing on what I call 'social thinking' rather than just 'social skills.' I emphasize 'social thinking' because it involves children using their brains to process concepts and experiences, rather than simply learning behaviors. While children often act on impulse, their brains can form lasting connections when taught important concepts like waiting, friendship-building, and managing emotions through teachable moments and positive interactions. Though some children naturally learn these concepts by observing others, I've found that explicit teaching through positive interactions and role-play leads to better outcomes. This approach helps develop sustained friendships, self-regulation skills, emotional expression, concentration, and play skills—all crucial elements for success in school and beyond.
